The annual breast exam may include the following items depending on the woman’s age, personal and family history:
- Clinical breast and axillary examination by a qualified mammologist
- Physical mammography or the newest breast tomosynthesis
- Breast and axillary lymph node ultrasound
- MRI of the breast (if indicated)
- Breast biopsy with a cutting needle under ultrasound guidance (on findings)

Your Mastologist
The woman’s breast surgeon – mammologist is responsible for informing the woman and deciding on the exact screening plan. After the initial breast exam, taking a personal and family history, and a detailed review of your radiology tests, you will be informed of your risk level for breast cancer.
